  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with equal water
  • ¼ teaspoon red chili flakes optional

Method
 

Step 1: Mix the base ingredients
  1. In a saucepan, add pineapple juice, brown sugar, ketchup, soy sauce, rice vinegar, garlic powder, and onion powder. Whisk everything until well combined.

Step 2: Simmer the mixture
  1. Place the saucepan over medium heat. Let it simmer for 3 to 4 minutes until the mixture starts to slightly thicken and the sugar dissolves.

  1. Mix cornstarch with water. Pour into the sauce and whisk continuously. Cook until the sauce becomes glossy and thick.

  1. Taste and add red chili flakes if you like a little heat. After turning off the heat, allow the sauce to cool a little. Use immediately or store for later.
