Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup milk dairy or non-dairy
  • 1 cup strawberries or raspberries fresh or frozen
  • 1 tablespoon sugar optional
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red or pink food coloring optional

  • Saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Sieve  (optional, for straining seeds)

Method
 

Step 1: Blend the Berries
  1. Add strawberries or raspberries to a blender with a little milk. Blend until smooth. If you would like a texture without seeds, strain through a sieve.

Step 2: Heat the Mixture
  1. Pour the blended mixture into a saucepan. Add the remaining milk, sugar, and cornstarch. Whisk well to combine.

Step 3: Cook Until Thick
  1. Turn on low heat. Stir continuously for 5 to 7 minutes until the mixture thickens like pudding.

Step 4: Add Vanilla & Color
  1. Remove from heat. Add vanilla extract and a drop or two of food coloring for the iconic pink color. Stir to mix.

Step 5: Serve Warm or Chill
  1. Pour into bowls. You can enjoy it warm or refrigerate it for 1 hour to serve chilled.

Notes

Store the custard in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Before chilling, press plastic wrap directly on the custard’s surface to avoid a skin from forming on top.
