Step 1: Combine the liquids
- Add bourbon, water, soy sauce, ketchup, and apple cider vinegar to a saucepan. Whisk gently.

Step 2: Add sweetness and spices
- Add brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

Step 3: Cook the sauce
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring often.
