Step 1: Activate the yeast
- In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–7 minutes until foamy. This ensures the yeast is alive and active.
Step 2: Mix the dough
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir the dough until it starts to come together.
Step 3: Knead the dough
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes. This builds gluten for a chewy texture.
Step 4: Let it rise
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise for 1–2 hours until doubled in size.
Step 5: Shape and bake
- Punch down the dough. Roll it into the desired pizza shape, place it on a baking sheet or stone, and bake it at 475°F for 12–15 minutes.
