Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 2 cups water
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan or pot
  • Steamer basket
  • Lid
  • Tongs
  • Measuring spoons

Method

Step 1: Prepare the broccoli
  1. I start by washing the broccoli thoroughly. Then I cut it into even-sized florets. This helps everything cook evenly. You want fresh and bright green pieces.

Step 2: Set up steaming
  1. I pour water into a saucepan and place the steamer basket on top. I make sure the water does not touch the basket. Then I bring the water to a gentle boil.

Step 3: Steam the broccoli
  1. I add the broccoli to the steamer basket and cover it with a lid. I let it steam for about 5 to 7 minutes. I check it halfway. The broccoli should be tender but still bright green.

Notes

I love serving this broccoli next to grilled steak, chicken, or salmon. You can also pair it with mashed potatoes or rice.
