Method
Step 1: Preheat and Prepare
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). To keep a 9-inch round cake pan from sticking, grease and flour it.
Step 2: Cream the Butter and Sugar
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy. Use a hand mixer or whisk for this.
Step 3: Add Eggs and Vanilla
- One by one, add the eggs, thoroughly mixing each time. Stir in vanilla extract.
Step 4: Combine Dry Ingredients
- Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in another basin. Add these dry ingredients to the wet mixture gradually, switching between them and the milk. Mix until smooth.
Step 5: Bake the Cake
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out clean after 35 to 40 minutes of baking.
Step 6: Cool and Serve
- After ten minutes of cooling in the pan, move the cake to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm, accompanied by ice cream or berries, if desired.
Notes
Store any leftover butter cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Refrigerate it for up to five days if you choose to keep it longer.
