Step 1: Activate the Yeast
- Combine the sugar, yeast, and warm milk in a bowl. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy. This activates the yeast.
Step 2: Make the Dough
- Add melted butter, egg, salt, and flour. Mix until a dough forms. Knead for 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Step 3: Let the Dough Rise
- Cover the dough with a kitchen towel. Allow it to rise in a warm location for one hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Step 4: Shape the Rolls
- Punch down the dough. Divide into 12 equal pieces. Form into balls and transfer to a baking sheet lined with paper.
Step 5: Second Rise
- After 30 to 40 minutes, cover and let the rolls rise once more until they are puffed.
Step 6: Bake the Rolls
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls until golden brown, 12 to 15 minutes. Brush with melted butter after baking.
