Step 1: Marinate the Chicken
- Soak the chicken pieces in buttermilk for 15–20 minutes to tenderize and flavor the meat.
Step 2: Prepare the Coating
- In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Dredge each piece of marinated chicken in the flour mix until well coated.
Step 3: Fry the Chicken
- Heat oil in a deep pan and fry the coated chicken until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
Step 4: Heat Corn and Gravy
- Steam the corn or microwave it until hot. Heat the brown gravy in a saucepan until it begins to simmer.
Step 5: Assemble the Bowl
- Begin by placing a layer of mashed potatoes in a bowl. Add fried chicken pieces on top, followed by corn. Pour warm gravy liberally and top with shredded cheese to complete.
Notes
To preserve leftovers, store them in a sealed container and keep them in the refrigerator for a maximum of 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or oven until completely warmed through.
